'England’s Best' in 2019 World Whiskies Awards

We are extremely excited and proud to announce we have received not one, but two best in category awards in the World Whiskies Awards 2019.

Steel Bonnets has been named Best English Blended Malt No Age Statement Whisky.

The ONE Limited Edition Sherry Expression has been named Best Blended Limited Release No Age Statement Whisky.

The World Drinks Awards are the global awards selecting the very best in all internationally recognised styles of drinks. The taste categories are based upon the commonly held whisky groupings which define the style and process of whisky production. Judges making up the World Whisky Awards panel include international leading journalists, specialist drinks retailers and industry experts.

As country winners, The Lakes Distillery can now be hopeful to be named the best in category or even the World’s Best Whisky.

These results will be announced on Thursday 28th March 2019 at the Whisky Magazine Awards Dinner in London.

Steel Bonnets is a blend of malt whiskies from both England and Scotland. At its heart is The Lakes Single Malt Whisky. The whisky has a creamy, slightly nutty & full-bodied flavour, with notes of vanilla, ginger, nutmeg, and hints of dried fruit, all held together with a sweet comforting layer of wood smoke. Steel Bonnets blended malt whisky has been created to honour the memory of those people who lived in the Border Marches of England and Scotland during the 13th – 17th centuries.

The ONE Limited Edition Sherry Expression is a blended whisky comprising of whiskies from across the British Isles, carefully sourced and blended to create a harmonious flavour profile that reflects the passion and diversity of the island nation. The bottling is limited to only 5,500 bottles, each of which are individually numbered. For the first time, this limited edition of The ONE is bottled at 46.6% ABV allowing us to retain the smoothness and the depth of flavour imparted by our casks.

Both whiskies are non-chill filtered for a richer mouthfeel and fuller flavour, with only the natural colours derived from our oak casks being showcased in every bottle.

All whiskies released by The Lakes Distillery will be bottled at 46.6% abv or above, non-chill filtered and at natural colour.

Nigel Mills CBE, CEO of The Lakes Distillery, said: As we move towards the release of The Lakes Single Malt Whiskymaker’s Reserve this autumn, both accolades, highlight the work of our Whiskymaker, and our holistic whiskymaking approach.”

Cheers to that!
