Whisky Magazine has awarded us the Icons of Whisky Visitor Attraction of the Year 2019.
The Icons of Whisky awards are first presented regionally; America, Australia, Ireland, Rest of World and Scotland. The Icons of Whisky Awards are described as ‘a celebration of the years of hard work that go into every bottle. From distillers, still makers and coopers, to warehouse staff and visitor centre managers – a great deal of craftsmanship, skill and knowledge are imparted at each stage of the process.’
Nominations are received from the industry before a shortlist is created and voted on. We were up against established distilleries such as The Balvenie and Jameson’s, we couldn’t be more pleased to have put The Lakes Distillery on the whisky visitor attraction map by winning Visitor Attraction of the Year 2019.
Our leading tourism and visitors centre was also voted ‘one of the top distilleries to visit before you die’ by the World Whisky Day campaign in 2018, and this year was awarded the Visit England Gold accolade. The distillery and Bistro attracts over 100,000 visitors a year. Set on the banks of the River Derwent, alongside Bassethwaite Lake, the distillery is a unique attraction in the Lake District National Park.
