Playful and light-hearted in nature, The Whiskymaker’s Editions Milky Way is an experiment inspired by the characteristics of Vanilla Oatmeal Stout.
An idea that began in Japan with a project blenders were working on with Imperial Stout, Milky Way is a joint mission with our neighbour Cumbrian Ales that takes us on a round trip, “light years” from our sherry-led signature style.
With the sky as our limit, we explored symbiotic opportunities, first seasoning our ex-Bourbon barrel with locally brewed stout. Next, we finished our single malt in the cask, to add a fine layer of cask-derived flavours to the whisky.
With limited numbers available, this release is only available by attending one of a series of exclusive events – Milky Way: An Evening of Whisky – hosted at The Lakes Distillery.
Included in the event, alongside a bottle of The Whiskymaker’s Editions Milky Way and a sample of the whisky to enjoy, is a special tasting menu complemented by a specially paired drinks flight with some of our finest Editions.
All events will be hosted on a Friday night on the following dates:

Tasting notes: Local stout, creamed coconut and vanilla mingle with floral hints and fresh custard leading to a long and creamy finish with fragrant overtones.
