The Whiskymaker's Reserve receives Global Recognition

Today, we are proud to announce the latest in a series of award wins for The Lakes Single Malt Whisky.

After 12 days of intense blind tastings by a panel of more than 50 respected industry professionals, we are delighted to announce that The Whiskymaker’s Reserve No.2 received a prestigious Gold Medal at the International Spirits Challenge (ISC).

One of the world’s premier spirits competitions, rigorous judging and an illustrious heritage has defined each ISC medal as an internationally trusted symbol of excellence.

This follows on from the recent news that five of our spirits earned global acclaim at the 2020 International Wine and Spirits Competition.

The International Wine and Spirits Competition (IWSC) is the world’s largest and most influential spirit industry awards, and we are delighted to announce that not only did every one of the Lakes bottles entered receive an accolade, but The Whiskymaker’s Reserve No.1 achieved Gold Spirit status.

A beautifully complex whisky, with lovely aromas of warm clotted cream fudge; on the palate it reveals an unexpected dryness: hints of smoke and dry black walnut perfectly balanced against subtle sweet vanilla and toasted coconut, giving incredible depth.
IWSC tasting notes, spirit score GOLD (95/100).

An expert panel from around the world blind-tasted and reviewed each of our spirits and to receive so many awards is something our whiskymaker Dhavall Gandhi is immensely proud of; “As a judge for the IWSC, I know how competitive these awards are. To win one is an achievement, but to be awarded five is very rare indeed. This is a significant accomplishment and testament to the hard work, focus and dedication of The Lakes’ whiskymaking team.”

Following another Gold Medal at the 2020 World Whisky Awards, The Whiskymaker’s Reserve No.2 received a Silver (91/100) by the IWSC, alongside The One Signature Blend (92/100). The Lakes Gin and The One Port Cask Finished both won a Bronze accolade.

An artistic exploration of whisky maturation and blending, each release in The Whiskymaker’s Reserve series is an evolution in our journey to define a sherry-led house style for The Lakes Single Malt.

Appealing to those who appreciate the complexity of a multi-layered approach to flavour creation, both The Whiskymaker’s Reserve No.1 and No.2 are now sold out, with No.3 released on 15 June 2020.

Subtly distinct and unique, the first was a vibrant, robust and cask strength introduction to The Lakes Single Malt, with number two offering a much more elegant and refined character. The Whiskymaker’s Reserve No.3 is different again.

Boasting an aromatic and seductive influence, the nose is rich and fragrant, scented with incense, spiced chocolate and toffee. With accompanying flavours of honey, figs, and wood spice on the palate, it leaves a long, warm and lingering finish.
