SUPPORTING LAKE DISTRICT MOUNTAIN RESCUE TEAMS

Lakes Mountain Strength Gin

Proudly supporting Lake District Mountain Rescue teams with £5 from every bottle

With 2,900 bottles produced, this Skiddaw limited edition Lakes Gin celebrates the power of the Lake District landscape and the fortitude of the mountain rescue teams who keep us safe.

Bottled at 51% ABV, five per cent higher than the classic Lakes Gin, it represents the 51% increase in the annual number of call outs that Mountain Rescue in Cumbria has seen in the ten years since the distillery opened in 2014.

In addition to the money raised from every bottle sold, a further £10,000 grant funding held by The Lake District Foundation will be invested in mountain safety messaging and advice to reduce avoidable call outs.

The Lake District has wonderful activities for all ages and abilities, but before you set off, it is important to be honest with yourself and your companions.

Clothing

Wear or pack the right clothing. A waterproof jacket is a must in the Lake District, along with plenty of layers. Bring a hat & gloves and a spare pair of socks for emergencies. Wear a watch and a comfortable rucksack.

Footwear

Wear appropriate and comfortable walking boots or shoes suitable to the terrain you are tackling. Breathable merino wool socks are also recommended. Mountain rescue teams have seen plenty of avoidable slips, trips and falls due to hikers wearing inappropriate trainers, wellington boots or even Crocs!

The essentials

Make sure you pack the essentials; a first aid kit, fully charged mobile phone, with a spare battery pack, emergency whistle, paper map and compass (and know how to use it). Don't forget a torch, suncream, sunglasses, blister relief, and plenty of water and snacks.

Before you set off, ask yourself:

  • Do you have the knowledge, fitness, and ability for the day?
  • Have I checked the weather?
  • Do I have the right gear?

Visit the Lake District National Park website for lots of great routes and maps for all abilities. Please only attempt an outdoor activity if the conditions are within you and your companions’ capabilities.

LDSAMRA* is the umbrella body for the 10 mountain rescue teams and 2 specialist teams (search dogs & mines rescue) in Cumbria; a voluntary organisation relying solely on the generosity and support of public donations.

We are working with LDSAMRA to raise awareness of mountain safety messaging, supporting the AdventureSmart strategy for outdoor safety, encouraging participation in the safe enjoyment of outdoor recreation and reducing the number of avoidable rescue callouts.

"Nearly 30% of all Cumbria’s Mountain Rescue incidents are avoidable 'lost or overdue' situations that could be prevented by planning adventurous activities beforehand. Our volunteer team members give up their time freely to help those desperately in need of rescue and are very grateful for The Lakes Distillery’s support."
