Spirits Business names The Lakes Distillery as 'world whisky brand to watch'

The Spirits Business has named The Lakes Distillery as one of the top ‘world whisky brands to watch’ in 2019 in a recent article published on their website.

The Lakes Distillery was listed alongside two other premium category world whiskies; Hibiki of Japan, backed by Beam Suntory and Starward, an Australian whisky backed by Diageo.

Releases from whisky brands across the world have exploded in recent years, with ‘world whisky’ outstripping the growth of Scotch whisky. According to the 2016 IWSR Market Forecast report, Scotch single malt has forecast growth rate of 2%, compared to ‘Other Whisky’ (not Irish, Canadian, or US Whiskey) at a forecast of 9.2%.

In the article, Nigel Mills, our CEO and co-founder commented that “…Japan and Taiwan are leading the way.” These two countries, alongside Ireland, Australia and India, have “demonstrated that good whisky can come from anywhere.” Including of course, the Lake District National Park.

He added, “To be named as one of three brands to watch in the world whisky market is a remarkable achievement. The analysis is from one of the most respected and expert publications in the sector; it knows the market and its opinion counts.”

“Our whiskymaker, Dhavall, sees every part of the whisky making process as interlinked, changing one element will effect change in everything else. Only by understanding how flavours are created throughout the journey through the distillery does the whisky-maker fully comprehend the possibilities. That is why at The Lakes Distillery, unusually in the sector, Dhavall is actively involved at every stage. It is holistic whisky-making and has been recognised as such by The Spirits Business.”

Following the launch our first single malt in July 2018 and the Quatrefoil Collection just in the last week, we will be looking to increase our portfolio of single malt in 2019 and beyond, with additional increases to our production capacity from next year preparing us for further innovation on the horizon.
