As a rule, espresso martinis – like any of your favourite cocktails – tend to taste better when they’re made by somebody else. However, we’d like to help you create the perfect homemade martini with our top tips and tricks, and of course, our recipe.
The Espresso Martini
25ml The Lakes Vodka
25ml fresh espresso
5ml sugar syrup
3 coffee beans
Add all ingredients into a shaker, shake vigorously and single strain into a chilled Martini glass.
Garnish with 3 coffee beans.
The Coffee
Freshly brewed espresso is best here. Use a shot from your home coffee machine, or, you can create an espresso shot with instant coffee, but this will lead to a weaker-tasting drink. Just let it chill in the fridge for a few moments so that it doesn’t melt all your ice or lose flavour.
The Syrup
This adds a little more sweetness to balance out the bitterness of the espresso. Start light here as you can always add more.
The Glass
Before you strain your cocktail, ensure your glasses are chilled; you can fill them with ice, or keep them in the fridge. As the cocktail doesn’t have ice in this will ensure it stays fresh and doesn’t return to room temperature as quickly.
Just don’t forget to empty the ice out the glasses before you pour the cocktail in!
The Shake
The most satisfying part of an espresso martini is the foam. To create this, make sure you shake your shaker hard as the natural oils in the coffee must combine with the air bubbles, also, tap and swirl the shaker after you’ve shaken hard, to ensure a creamy foam on the top of your martini.
The Presentation
Three espresso beans will make your martini look as good as it tastes, simply float them on your cocktail foam.
And you’re ready to enjoy. Sit back, relax and imagine you’re in your favourite cocktail bar.
