Our CEO Nigel Mills inspires participants at the Lancaster University masterclass series

CEO Nigel Mills joins inspirational speakers taking part in the Lancaster University Management School business masterclass series that includes; Tony Anderson, ex-marketing director at EasyJet, Heike O’Leary, Group Marketing Director of Lookers and Andy Rubin, CEO of Pentland Brands where they present on their unique business experiences to an audience of around 200 people.

Nigel returned to his Lancaster University Management School roots on 30th January 2019. He actually graduated in 1980 with a degree in Economics from Lancaster University. The Management School invited Nigel to take part in their masterclass series which has ran successfully for over 10 years. The university invite up to six inspirational guest speakers each year; all have a passion for business and want to share their knowledge and expertise with others. That’s not the only thing in common with these guests – they are all in fact alumni of the university.

"Having a successful business is about keeping on going when you believe in what you’re doing. But also learn to walk around brick walls rather than keep on running into them."

He presented a branding masterclass on the 30th January in lecture theatre 1 demonstrating our ambition to build a global luxury whisky brand in the Lake District National Park. Nigel shared and discussed how in six years we’ve gone from an abandoned old Victorian model farm, to an award winning distillery. This masterclass aimed to inspire around 200 attendees which were participants in Lancaster’s business engagement programme and SME’s from across the North West.

"We all need to keep asking questions and find mentors. Having a successful business is about keeping on going when you believe in what you’re doing."

It was an especially successful masterclass once the participants discovered they could actually try The Lakes Explorer Gin at the end of the session giving them an opportunity to do some networking over a G&T in the Management School Hub.
