Still Spirit's Journey in Aberdeenshire

In celebration of Small Business Week, we are shining a light on the entrepreneurial spirit that drives local economies and communities forward. One such beacon in the drinks industry is Still Spirit, nestled in the heart of Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Our key account manager, Hemil Haria, had the pleasure of chatting with Daniel, the Co-Founder and Managing Director of Still Spirit, to learn more about their story, their commitment to quality spirits, and their passion for supporting innovative new world distilleries.

For Managing Director Daniel, a passion for whisky has been a lifelong pursuit. His fascination with the intricate factors that contribute to crafting the perfect dram led him to co-found Still Spirit alongside his brother Craig. With a background in accounting and corporate finance, Daniel applies his expertise across various whisky-sector businesses, merging financial acumen with a fervent desire to explore old, interesting, and rare types of whisky.

As a long-time whisky collector, Daniel is driven by his own curiosity and the joy he finds in discovering new innovations in whisky making. The result is a continuously expanding offer for customers, granting them access to unique whiskies often not found elsewhere.

The genesis of Still Spirit, dating back to 2020, was inspired by the success of their sister business, Whisky Hammer, a global whisky auction site. Together, Daniel and his brother Craig embarked on a mission to establish an online platform and tasting room that not only showcases rare whisky vintages but also fosters enjoyment and exploration of this beloved spirit.

The Lakes Distillery Connection

When asked about their relationship with the Lakes Distillery, Daniel's enthusiasm was palpable. "We stock all of the core Lakes products across the whisky, gin, and vodka range," he explained. "The Lakes has been stocked in Still Spirit since we opened doors; it’s a firm favourite of both my brother and I for their approach to taste and quality, and, the brand (and The Lakes team!) as a whole is something we’re fond of."

Favourite Dram from the Lakes:

Daniel's favourite dram from the Lakes portfolio is The Whiskymaker’s Reserve No.4, most renowned for its well-balanced and complex taste profile and being named “World’s Best” in the World Whiskies Awards 2022. He also mentioned their regular tasting events, often featuring The Lakes products, which can be found on their website. It's clear that Still Spirit is not just a retail outlet but a community hub where enthusiasts gather to share their passion for spirits.

Beyond The Lakes: Daniel’s Drink of Choice

While The Lakes Whisky hold a special place in Daniel's heart, he revealed that he enjoys exploring other whiskies as well. "I enjoy most sherried Speysiders, but my go-to is normally a Springbank or Bunnahabhain for its subtle smoke," he shared. This versatility and willingness to explore different flavours reflect the essence of Still Spirit - a place where every palate is catered to.
